As I know the standard way to use several OS on PC is the following:
You should to split your drive on several partitions.
1. Install an old win9x/winMe first on the primary partition.
2. Secondly, you can install win2k/winXP on another partition/drive.
3. Thirdly, you can install Linux/UNIX on another disk/partition.
