Mike:

1) Restore your old configuration, do your work and wait until you are
not "mission critical" to fool around with upgrades.

2) When you go in to uninstall the new board, check and make sure the
drive (IDE) cables are all installed with pin 1 (red stripe) in the
proper direction.  If that solves it, you just dodged a bullet, if not
hurry and put things back like they were.
