Hi Peter,
This Compaq link with some support info worked for me:
http://www.compaq.com/athome/support/msgs/2200/
and a link with some Cyrix info:
http://www.cpushack.net/CyrixID.html
and a chronolgy with info on non-Intel CPU's
http://www.pctechguide.com/22non-inte.htm
Here's what I found about accessing the bios:
"Do a "restart", press the F10 key when
you see the "COMPAQ" come up"
If you use Google to search the "Groups" and restrict your search to
appropriate groups, such as (alt.sys.pc-clone.compaq), you'll find
discussion from that era, including some with settings to switch to
a faster AMD chip, should you want to try it.
HTH, Bob

I am trying to locate some specs on the Compaq Presario 2286 computer. What
I found so far is that it is a Cyrix 333MHz machine with a 4GB hard drive
and 32MB RAM. The reported RAM, however, is only 28MB - where did the other
4MB go? Also, I know the Cyrix name and just a bit about it, but how does
the CPU compare to the Pentium line - what is it equivalent to?
Google search did not get me a spec for the Presario, and www.compaq.com was
not responding. Also, what is the hot key to get into the BIOS? I managed to
activate it by pressing all the common keys, but I have not determined which
specific key it was (alt S, del, ins, etc).
Thank you for any help. Peter
