My niece has a Packard Bell 150MHz Pentium, 64 MB RAM running Windows 98 SE.
About 3 weeks ago it would not boot up. It would start to boot and then get
to the Windows splash screen and stop. I could not get it to boot to Windows
in safe mode either. I reformatted the hard drive and did a fresh install of
Windows 98 SE. I loaded several programs back on and it worked fine for about
3 weeks. Tonight she turned it on and it won't boot up again. It goes to the
same point that it did last time and stops. Is there a likely culprit that
would cause this? Or is there any diagnostic steps I can take to determine if
it is a memory, hard drive, motherboard or other problem causing this? TIA
for any and all help.
