Elizabeth,

1. If your BIOS allows bootable CDs, go into setup and set cdrom as the
first boot device.
2. Here is a link from CNET on installing NT. It covers just about
everything you might encounter when doing installations.
http://www.cnet.com/Content/Features/Howto/NT4tips/ss02.html
<http://www.cnet.com/Content/Features/Howto/NT4tips/ss02.html>
3. About fdisk. NT will allow you to make the partition and format after
the setup begins. If you want a large partition, more than 2 GB, use
partition magic.
4. Things to watch out for:
        a. In the BIOS disable PNP. It is NOT supported.
        b. When you reach the setup screen identifying your keyboard,
mouse, and video, etc., highlight video, hit enter and select standard VGA,
do this unless you know for certain that the specific video driver is on the
NT disk. Most new video cards are not auto detectable. You can install
your video after NT is up and running in VGA mode.
5. Most devices can be installed after the NT install is completed, ie:
sound, modem, even network cards. Many new devices require you to run the
NT4 Service Pack 3 or better before installing the device driver.
6. After net is running the first time and before you install software go
to the control panel, system, performance, change and set the initial size
and maximum size for the virtual memory to 2.5 times the installed ram. The
default is too low.
7. Run the service pack after you set the Virtual Memory, then reboot.
8. You will find that the most time consuming part of installing NT is all
the rebooting. Remember, NT isn't hard, just different. It wants things
done in a specific order.

9. Go here to find out anything you want to know about NT
