You should be able to find a decent AT style super seven socketed
motherboard with an AMD K6-2 400 mhz or 500 mhz super seven form factor cpu.
You will need PC-100 SDRAM. You should get an AGP video card, keep in mind
the board might only support the voltage for the older AGP standards. You
should have at least an 8 gig drive since at about this size the drives
started coming with decent speed, although I still own a Maxtor 5.4 gig
drive that is very fast. If you opt for a new drive be aware you might need
to spend even more if you choose one that is DMA 66 or DMA 100. The basic
level standard at the time for super seven sockets was DMA 33.

If you are using win95 you will probably want to upgrade to win98. Don't
load win98se if you have an older sound card and software. Win98 will
likely have the motherboard chipset drivers built-in, or you can download
them if you can still find a support site. Don't pick a motherboard that
has any built-in peripherals like a modem or sound, since the driver hunt
for these may be a problem.

If you are a new builder, this can be a fun project, since you can scale it
according to your budget, and your putting little money at risk if the
resulting pc proves an underperformer. But if you are an experienced
builder who is not in it for the experienced gained, then the pentium 200 is
probably more valuable intact, loaded with Linux for example, and the money
should go toward finding a complete, inexpensive pc that has comparable
performance and age among all its components.

Hi

My kids have a AT mid tower sytle pentium 200 that I would like to upgrade a
little for them. Are there any options available for this style case? I am
thinking I would need to replace the motherboard, ram, and processor.
Thank you.
