I am unable to restore operating system after installing mother board from
salvaged pc on a Presario 6440 with

Titan II motherboard Pentium II 266 mhz.

When I run the Compaq quick restore after I enter the serial# and model # it
attempts to read the restore CD

but it just does nothing. Does it require the serial # from the PC the
motherboard came from? Or is there another method

to be able to load OS from the recover disk.

I am able to get to the files on the recover disk but I am not sure how or
what file to execute to get things rolling.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Nick

Hi,
The restore CD's will only work on the EXACT model which they came with. I
recently swapped a motherboard in a Compaq with another Compaq, and the
restore disks wouldn't work, even though the motherboard was the same brand and
model as the old one. I finally had to swap the BIOS chips between the mobos,
and then the restore CD's worked.
