You probably could use the Celeron 500 with your slot one system, but you
will also need to buy a "slotket" adaptor in order to adapt the Celeron pin
grid arrangement to the slot one. You need to slow down the system bus to
66 mhz from 100 mhz to use the Celeron. I wouldn't count on overclocking
the Celeron 500 significantly, which would be done by bumping up the bus
speed (since the processor multiplier is locked). I think overclocking the
366mhz celerons to 550 is the typical upper limit to "practical"
overclocking of the Celeron line.

Recent reports are that the coppermine pentium III 500 and 550 are quite
overclockable (see Anand's Hardware Review or Sharky's Extreme for some
articles on this). However, you again need an adaptor to use these chips,
which have yet another pin grid array (different than the Celerons), on a
slot one board (Iwill makes an adaptor for this purpose). Assuming that
your motherboard supports higher bus speeds, one limiting factor with a BX
based motherboard will be that in bumping up the system speed past 100mhz
you lack a divider for the AGP slot that will allow you to run at 133mhz
without overclocking the video card. (If you were using all PCI video
cards, this may work. I'm not sure if your motherboard will appropriately
use the right divider for the PCI bus when the system bus is at 133 mhz.
Perhaps someone else knows for sure, but I think this might be workable.)
Since you are using an AGP video card, you really need a 133mhz motherboard,
such as one based on the VIA Apollo 133 Pro, to run at 133mhz bus speed.
You may need better SDRAM, too, at this higher bus speed. Some good quality
PC100 SDRAM tolerates the 133mhz bus fine, but some doesn't. (I've had good
luck getting a stick of older PC66 SDRAM to run fine at 100mhz, for
example.)
