Hi you should enable 32-bit transfer to take advantage of several
different advantages; increased performance, greater partition sizing
thru logical addressing, and protected mode access of your hard
drive if you're using a 32-bit operating system such as Win98. 32-bit
transfer will also allow the OS to bypass the BIOS and communicate
directly with the hard drive.
For all of this to work your hard drive must have a 32-bit controller, your
motherboard must have a UDMA33 or higher controller provided by your
Northbridge chipset, your BIOS must have intialization strings for it, and
your OS must have 32-bit drivers to interface.
Your equipment is capable of taking advantage of this as long as your
OS is 32-bit and your Hard drive is using 32-bit LBA mode, then you're
good to go. Verify LBA thru BIOS under Standard CMOS or Autodetect
your Hard drive.

mode if chipset supports. How do I find out if my chipset does? I contacted
the mobo manufacturer and downloaded a spec sheet on it. I cant find anything
there. I have a BCM FR520. The board is actually listed as a IN530 on the
site. Same board and has a SiS530/5595 chipset. The only other place I found
the board at was a site in the UK listed as the Miami mobo. Also same board.
What exactly is 32bit transfer mode and if I'm not using it now, what is
being used? Does this have to do with information transferred from the HD?
Thanks all for helping out a 'greenhorn.'
