Hi Sissy,
 My brother had the same system/setup as well as the same scan  problem. In 
addition to the great advise given so far, I would add to turn off  your screen 
saver as that seemed to disrupt as well. We constantly had problems  with ME 
and I also recomend a more reliable OS.
