Booting to safe mode

Tried to boot into safe mode(twice) and the process stopped at the list of
drivers and would not proceed(left it sitting for half an hour) and had to
do a hard boot and start in last known good configuration to get thte
desktop back.

Running: Dell 1505 Laptop with 80 gig HD(43 remaining) Windows XP SP 2, Zone
Alarm Pro, AVG Antivirus, Spyware Doctor, ANVIR Task Manager Free,
Rambooster 2.0, 2 gig ram(running about 50% free),

Have no idea why this is, any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Barry
