Can anyone help me please? This is really weird. Last week I did a
seemingly successful update for my Linksys BEFSR41 V2 4 port router. After
the update, everything is working and I have full connectivity to the
internet from my four computer home network and even file sharing is
working. I can download from the internet and use realplayer and can go to
any site FTP, HTTP etcetera.

The only one glitch is that I cannot send email through my verizon account
using outgoing server "outgoing.verizon.net [206.46.170.8". In Outlook
Express, the error msg is something like "the server has terminated the
connection." But if I create a new out-going message with only 1 line of
text, somehow it goes through, make it more than one line of text or if I do
a forward, Outlook gives the error msg and the outgoing message will not be
sent.

And the weirder thing is, even if I try sending from the web-base interface
located at http://netmail.verizon.net, it would just not let me send even a
single character. Receiving is not a problem in both Outlook Express and in
the web-interface. I have a paid Yahoo mail account and am able to send and
receive in both Outlook and web-base with no problem...

I called Verizon tech support and we wasted haf a day trying to figure with
no success. The only way we could make out-going mail work is when we remove
the router and plug the DSL modem directly to one of the computers. So tech
said it was no longer their concern since it is obviously the router that is
the problem and that it was not at their end.

My setup:
Westell c90-36r516-01 DSL modem
Linksys BEFSR41 V2 4 port router
2 p4 computers running XP home 1 P2 running Win98 and Thinkpad also with
Win98.
Connection is made via PPPOE.

What I already tried or checked:
I could ping outgoing.verizon.net with no lost.
Did a hard reset on the router and reenter all settings, UserName/pass,
domain, "dsl.verizon.net" dns servers "4.2.2.1 4.2.2.2"
Turning EVERYTHING off then on.
I tried going static assigning I/P for all the computer and the router using
"192.168.1.1 to .5". I went back to all DHCP which is the router's default.
Tried putting 1 computer on the DMZ, still cannot send...
Checked all of the router's I/P filtering and all are disabled. I even
plaied with many of the settings but did a hard reset after nothing worked
just to make sure.
Tried unloading ZoneAlarm. Nothing...

What really boggles me is, if I have full access to the internet with no
problem what so ever, why then can I not send mail even using the verizon
web-mail. I mean I would understand not being able to send through
OutlookExpress, but even on the web I cannot send?

Thanks much for any help.
Vic
PS. I'm sending this msg through yahoo's out-going server but I put my reply
address as verizon.net
