You may want to disable this setting. I've found it is
not usually necessary.

This may be a major part of your problem. It is possible that your BIOS is
not automatically recognizing and configuring your hard disk. What I see here
are 2 IDE channels, neither of which indicates the presence of a hard disk.
After checking to verify that your flat ribbon cables are routed from the correct
location on the mother board to the correct devices (Primary IDE to hard disk
with the red or blue or colored or striped wire located at pin 1 on the board
and at the drive), and that the power plugs are firmly inserted, go into the
BIOS settings and hit enter with the Primary IDE line highlighted. Alternatively,
you may have to highlight the line, then press either the - or + key on the numeric
keypad to change the setting to AUTO. Exit the setup utility saving this change
and see if the computer recognizes the hard disk.

If this procedure fails, suspect cable or drive failure, but don't give up just yet.
Remove the drive and examine the label on it for notations of heads and cylinders.
In the BIOS setup USER can be chosen as a Primary IDE Master setting, at
which point you may enter the numbers from the drive label in their appropriate
locations. This may allow your computer to recognize and use the hard disk.

I may encounter some dispute here, however; it is quite acceptable
to configure the CD-ROM as a slave on the Secondary IDE channel,
even if no master device is installed. Just put the jumper (small black
or blue plastic block with a contact strip inside to complete a circuit
between two pins on a device) on the set of pins labeled SL (for slave),
and see that the ribbon cable is properly connected and the power
plug is firmly inserted. Follow the same procedure for this device as
for the hard disk, setting the Secondary IDE slave for AUTO. It
may still show none in the BIOS, but you should receive a message
to the effect that an ATAPI CD-ROM <some brand>=SS (secondary slave)
on one of the black preliminary startup screens. If you have a CD burner,
you may want to configure the CD-ROM as the Secondary IDE
master and the CD burner as the Secondary IDE slave.
