Hi All, a WIN XP PRO system was configured for a ADSL connection.

details:-- modem--usb Adsl modem of chinese make (RB Comtec)
the modem was configured with the user cd and shows up in device manager under
"network adapters"

the configuration details:- VPI-1 VCI-32 RFC 2516 PPPoE encapsulation

modulation--multimode

both the led's on the modem are on when o/s loads.
connection process completes succesfully. so far all fine.

now the problem--within 2/3 minutes into the connection a window pops up saying LSA (export version) needs to close under NT AUTHORITY SYSTEM. a few seconds later another window saying " C\windows\system32\lsass.exe terminated unexpectedly status code 1073741819 and countdown begins from 60 secs. downwards
and the system shuts/re-boots.

after this nothing happens and all well (at least i hope so because i have not given it much time) if i DO NOT CONNECT TO THE NET. the moment i connect the cycle starts again.

i did some research and things like " sasser worm / virus/ create a hijack this log etc etc were the result

a look at lsass.exe shows up win xps very usefull explanation:-

folder--C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32, description--LSA shell (export version), company name--- microsoft, file version 5.1.2600.00

AND date created 8/22/ 2006 repeat 2006! size 11.5kb

a casual perusal of microsoft KB SHOWS this as " local server authentication system.

AT this point i said enough and turned to my most trusted forum and hence this long post.

sure some fixes will emerge and wishing all a very good day---Venkat
