I've bought and run AMD before, but I prefer the Intel chip. Recently
we did two classes on fdisking, reformatting, and reinstalling Windows
98 on 6 identical clones simultaneously. Identical except that one had
an Intel Pentium 3 CPU and the other five had K-6 3. All were 350 Mhz.
The Intel machine finished formatting and installing Windows from the
hard drive many minutes ahead of the AMD machines which were started on
the same processes at the same time. It left all of the participants
convinced the Intel chip had a big advantage in speed for certain
intensive disk operations. YMMV.
