Is it possible the drive letter is hidden using tweakui?
In tweakui/my computer- make sure you have the d: drive checked.
If you don't have tweakui, download from this page:
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/tweakui
There is a diff. flavor for winXP
I assume there is a registry hack, but tweakui is a useful tool to have
installed.
