HI

The AMD Duron, t-bird, and XP products are all very fragile CPU's.

You have to be very careful mounting the cpu fan on. You have to treat it
like GLASS, because it is GLASS. I work for a distributor and 85% of the
time when a customer has a problem with the AMD CPU's its because that
exposed area in the middle of the chip, the silicon, gets damaged.
the cause is usually because the fan was mounted incorrectly and caused the
silicon to break.

It does not take much at all. A slighted nick or scratch on the top of or
on the edge of the silicon makes it a lightweight paperweight.

AMD has a 14 page document on its website for the proper installation of
the fan on it's cpus.

Way too fragile for the cost of the chip. The chip can not be run for more
than 1 second with out proper heatsink/fan or it burns out, permanantly.
Intel chips are not so fragile, they cover the silicon with an epoxy and
they have thermal limiters built in to protect the chip. AMD in their
desire to be less costly than intel, leaves out these two little safeguards
and unfortunaltey you learn about it from a bad and expensive experience.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!
