Here are 2 things that can be done with Windows 9x that are handy
for launching programs from the right mouse button. One of the
best applications I have found for this trick is to setup F-Prot to be
launched to scan a file, folder or drive easily. Here is how to do it:

A. LAUNCH F-PROT TO SCAN A FILE OR FOLDER FROM THE
SENDTO RIGHT MOUSE CLICK

create a batch file in the Windows folder (or somewhere else in
your path) that has the following lines:

c:
cd\fprot
f-prot %1
cd\

Next, create a shortcut to the batch file in the \Windows\Sendto
folder.

The replaceable parameter allows one to right click on a file or folder
and then launch F-Prot. You will of course need to have the
F-Prot program located in the drive and directory referenced in the
batch file...

ftp://ftp.DataFellows.com/f-prot/free/fp-302.zip

B. LAUNCH F-PROT TO SCAN A DRIVE OR FOLDER

Create a new action to be performed for the folder file type whereby
F-Prot is launched...

Open "My Computer"

Click on VIEW and then FOLDER OPTIONS

Click on FILE TYPES

Scroll down to FOLDER and click on it and then EDIT

Click on NEW to create a NEW ACTION

In the window for ACTION type in whatever you want to call your
action (i.e. F-PROT)

In the window for APPLICATION TO PERFORM ACTION - enter the
path to the F-PROT batch file created earlier...

Now whenever you right click on a drive, folder or file in Explorer
you will be able to scan it for a virus quickly with F-Prot (one the the
*best* virus scanners available *for free*).

NOTE that since version 3.01 the F-Prot (free for individual use)
Dos scanner can be configured to scan inside archive (zip and arj)
files. This improvement now makes the F-Prot scanner even better.
I always recommend using at least 2 or 3 virus scanners and F-Prot
should definitely be one of them!
