Unless your computer "needs" the six disks to load the CD-ROM drivers you
really don't need them in my opinion. When they first came out (XP Boot
Disks) it was a well known fact that the only real value was to provide
drivers for the CD. If you have the XP install disk you might want to try
accessing the BIOS and setting the boot order so the CD boots first. Exit
the BIOS. Reboot the machine with the XP disk in the tray. At this point
when the machine boots up it will look in he CD first for the Operating
System. From there you should be able to install the OS. This may alleviate
the error.

Another possibility may be the hard drive mode. If trying to install the OS
by setting the BIOS to start the boot sequence from the CD doesn't work,
look at the settings for the hard drive. It may be that for what ever reason
the change you made by setting everything to "default" may have upset the
apple cart. I don't know what your BIOS may indicate the choices are. They
may be LBA, Large or even CHS. Depends upon the age of the system. Try
choosing a different one than the one listed.

Another possibility may be a corrupt file in the "boot disks." In this case
you may never get the job done.

Here are some words of wisdom from Microsoft. http://tinyurl.com/5ubwd It
pertains to the problem you are having. The article may help you.
