Sorry about the length. Thought I needed to tell whole story.

I have a problem I can't quite get my arms on. First I'll tell you where I
started hardware wise, tell you what I've tried to do, and then tell you
about the problem.

Starting hardware:
dual 166 MHz MMX P5 w/ 128mb ram on Tyan Titan III
NextStor92/93 PCI scsi adapter (symbios 53c810 chip)
SCSI devices: 1.8 GB Fujitsu drive, JAZ, HP 4mm tape backup
IDE Devices: 3 GB Micropolis, ZIP, CD-ROM
Other: #9 Video, sportser33.6 fax/modem, ess sound card, Intel pro100 NIC.

What I tried to do.
Needed more storage. Found a external drive case stuffed w/ 5 2GB HP Ultra
Wide (40mb/sec) differential drives. Included controller, cable, and
terminator for $440 including shipping. Since I don't own a ultra wide SCSI
card, I would have had to spend >$1000 for equivalent storage speed and
space from Megahuas or the like. Controller is a Symbios based ultrawide pci
(53c875 chip).

Current Operating boot set-up.
I use a 50mb DOS partition on the IDE drive to boot. I have two NT4.0 WS
installations. My main working one takes up most of the SCSI drive
(remainder for programs). The IDE drive contains a small partition (400mb)
for a back-up minimal NT installation. Remainder of IDE is for programs and
data.

Problem:
First I updated the scsi driver. Turned off machine. Installed hardware.
Booted (normal boot from scsi drive). Boot hung on OS loader (got the line
of dots and then nothing). Re-booted from IDE; O.K. While in back-up NT,
copied working NT (everything) to one of the five 2gb HPs hanging off NCR875
controller. Check number files, folder, etc - now have two working copies of
NT; one on Fujitsu scsi (c810) and one HP scsi (c875). Edited boot.ini to
get appropriate partition selected. Re-booted and selected 875 HP boot.
Hung. Modified boot.ini with /sos. Booting from either SCSI hard drive, OS
loader stops on NTFS.SYS.

Next. cleared space on ide drive. Copied working NT copy to it. Booted fine.
Have no problem working with either symbios controller and can read/write to
all attached drives.

Next removed everything related to 53c875 controller. Re-booted to Fujitsu
on 53c810. boots fine. Re-install 53c875 can't boot either scsi NT
installation.

Is this a hardware conflict? Didn't find anything in KB.

New drivers from symbios.com?

any help/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks, David Brenner
