I don't know about Packard-Bell in particular, but recently
some manufacturers have been doing something very
helpful --- basically providing a 'fresh install' cd, specific
to their system, and including their preloaded software.

(I've received two, in recent history, but never used them.)

In theory, you can wipe (or replace) the disk, and run some
kind of install off of the cd that restores the computer to its
factory-fresh configuration.  (Whether your Packard-Bell
cd does this, or is just a compendium of preloaded software,
I couldn't tell you.)

I don't use these cd's because between service packs (even
for apps), updated drivers (Have you ever had a system shipped
with satisfactory drivers?), and configuration preferences of my
own, I've always found it easier to do a fresh install of the os,
update drivers, apply service packs, and install the apps I want.
The cd may, however, contain patches specific to your system.
But even without using the complete restore function, you should
be able to get any system-specific patches off the cd, off some
other cd or diskettes provided with you system, or off the
manufactureres web site.
