He's right.  I just did the ethernet networking thing - 2 100BaseT PCI
Nics, 1 crossover cable and coupler (ideally, you would use a crossover
CONNECTOR, but they were out of those) and 75 feet of cat5 cost me 60
dollars, including shipping.  The 75 feet of cable was the most expensive
part at $22.  If you need shorter cable, it should cost a lot less.
