Simple things first:

Make sure sound control is not "muted".

Make sure speakers are turned on and that they are powered up, if
applicable.

Make sure speakers are plugged into right location on sound
card/motherboard.

Check "Device Manager" to see if any problems are indicated with the sound.
You may need to uninstall sound devices and let Windows reinstall upon
restart of OS. You may need to replace (corrupt file) or update the sound
driver.

Inside case, make sure wiring from CD and/or DVD is properly connected to
sound card/motherboard including any possible broken wire and including wire
orientation being correct on both ends (this caused my last sound problem in
that a new wire I purchased was incorrectly attached at the connectors).

If you have a sound card, try reseating it.

I have not been following this post so I hope I've not just totally repeated
what you have already been advised. Beyond the foregoing, you could have a
hardware failure with the sound card/motherboard.
