You probably have a 66mhz front side bus and your using edo 72 pin simms for
memory. There is one higher AMD K6-2 cpu that runs at 66mhz, and k6-2 cpus
that run at 83 mhz, which your board may support. That would give you a
theoretical increase to 333 mhz, although slightly higher may even be
possible. However, I would consider the graphics and memory capabilities of
your board. Does it have an AGP video slot? Do you have SDRAM installed on
it? Does it have more than one SDRAM 168 pin socket? Given the penalty of
the slower front side bus you have, it wouldn't pay to try and fix the cpu
AND the memory AND the graphics. Upgrading JUST the cpu is a marginal
improvement at best. I would not upgrade. I dont' think there were
overdrive super seven cpus that included an adapter to fit your socket 7
zif, much like the Evergreen pentiums fitted to 486 boards. I checked
pricewatch.com but none were listed. You could over-clock your front side
bus to 75 or 83 mhz if your board supports it.
I would consider all the components you now have, and whether any of them
would make a good fit into an upgraded pc. Usually you find it is a better
bargain to buy a new pc and keep the value of this one intact for someone
else to use.

I have an old AMD K6 266, not sure of MOBO but the # is as follows
06-09-99-VP3-586B-W877-2A5LE8096-00. Award Bios v4.60PGA, Flash v 1.15JE37
(I Think). I want to upgrade the processor and was wondering if anybody
knew, given these spec's what is the largest CPU this board will take????
and also. is the old K6 a socket 7 chip?? Please let me know.
