You were right to question this. This kind of misdirection has become
very commonplace, and even sites I used to trust are doing it. Selling a
free program has got to be against the law, and especially selling a
$24.95 program for $39.50. They may not even be selling the program,
just scamming you for a fake "registration".
In any case, the program you want is here:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
For the rest of you, just be very, very careful when downloading this
type pf program. Sometimes the mis-direction is very clever and you'll
be infested with spyware or out some money in no time at all.

Hi,
I am always interested in the replies to peoples problems and tried to
download "Malwarebytes" as advised by a contributer. The program claimed
to
be free and installed ok, I updated and ran a scan. It then claimed to
have
found some 300 issues and directed me to register before the issues
could be
fixed - they then wanted 39.50 to register.
Is this a scam? how can they claim to be free and then demand money?
Any advice would be very welcome - also any hints on free malware
removeal.
Regards,
John.
