O.K.  Here's my $0.02 worth.  I like Maxtor because they are usually the
quietest of drives I've used, but they are (IMHO) middle of the road with
reliability.  Fujitsu drives are actually very reliable.  They aren't the
quickest of drives though.  My top vote, though, is for IBM.  The only thing
you need to be carefull of is the 7200-10,000rpm drives need extra cooling.
They have a tendancy to get a wee on the hot side.

Western Digital used to be, in my estimation, the top of the line drive in
IDE formats.  Before them (do you even remember the RLL? and MLM days)
Seagate was without question the absolute leader.  Now I put them in the
upper 40%, but don't rely on them.  Oh, and Quantum lost my vote when they
came out with the Bigfoot, but I will grudgingly admit their drives have
improved since that fiasco.  Hope this helps!
