I work in Brazil and I have found that there are alot of scanners out there
that are sold without Microsoft certification or logo. The bigest problem I
come across is when I have to uninstall/reinstall due to some failure or
file corruption. The uninstall appears to go fine, BUT, it in fact leaves
all itīs original (corrupted) configuration data in the registry. Usually
MS Logo certified hardware has less problems, but the scanning software
still has. Try reinstalling the scanner and testing it gets your error
message, "Your scanner is being used by another Caere application, please
wait till the process is finished" or similiar message. If you are
unfamiliar with working in the registry, try one of the freeware products
like JV16 power tools (www.jv16.org) or Norton WinDoctor, part of Norton
Utilitys or another to check if this is your situation. Deleting the
configuration data usually restores the function of the scanner for me, of
course it goes without saying... backup, backup!
