In our efforts to adapt an HP 855c to a Win95 network, we found that we
first had to gain and to install an updated set of printer drivers from HP
before the device would be accessible over the net. HP included a special
warning that network use of printers designed for local service should be
expected to shorten the service life. As I recall, we got no error message
at the remote workstation; the printer just didn't work. Have you checked
into this?
