I had the same problem with a generic system using same OS and a celeron 400mhz processor. I found that a screen saver program was attempting to access the A drive for new pictures to use in that application even if the screensaver wasn't the active application.... Just a thought!

  The subject line says it all I think.  Many times a day, sometimes every few minutes, the green A drive light comes on and I hear a grinding sound.  My computer is about 3-4 years old.....333 Mz speed with a 10 gig hard drive.  Any ideas??  Thank you
