Your system may look different if your settings have been changed.
(This is how mine looks and works... XP-Pro_SP2)

Open Control Panel.
Right Click "Printers and Faxes"
Click on "Open".
See if you have a left side bar with Printer Tasks listed.
If not, click the Folders Button (if any) on the Tool Bar. That "might"
give you the side bar menus...
Click on "Add a printer" on the left side bar.
Select -only- "Local printer attached to this computer"
(Clear the other box -- Automatically detect...etc..... )
Click next.
In the "Use the following port:" drop down box,
select FILE: (Print to File)
Click next.
On the next screen, in the Manufacturers side, select: "Generic"
On the Printers side, select Generic/Text Only.
Finish the "process", clicking as required...

The best way to see where the files get stored is to make one with
a unique name and then search for it...
(There is no way to browse for a storage location while printing.)

You "make a file" by selecting the generic/text only printer driver in
a programs "print dialog box" and then giving the file a name.
I ALWAYS add an extension. I think the default is no extension
and that confuses windows when trying to open the file later.
I use the extension " .PRN " This is associated with a UNIX type
notepad editor (Metapad) and the formatting is "always" better for
the text. If you use Windows Notepad and notice formatting problems,
this "workaround" (and viewing program) will cure that...

Good luck. Hope the descriptions above work for you...
