Hi Jim,

A little more detail may be of importance for us to help you, as not
everyone if familiar with all the different Dell models out in the
world.

When you say the plug doesn't fit, is it because the power supply is a
20 pin connector and the dell is 24 pin receiver or visa vera? Some
main boards use a atx server connector (24 pin) and you can find
adapters to change the 20 to 24. Supermicro cases and server boards are
an example of this.

Does the dell board have only 1 connection from the dell power supply or
2 or 3?

Thanks and have a Great Day!

Joe Lore

I have a Dell Dimension 8250 which I wanted to use for video editing. I
purchased a Matrox Parhelia video and discovered that Matrox recommended
a 400 W power supply especially if a Matrox editing board will also be
used.

Problem number 1 - Dell doesn't make a 400 W power supply for the 8250.

Problem number 2 - I found a Fortron F5p550-60-PLN 550 W power supply at
Newegg.com which I thought would fit the Dell. Supprise (to me), the
ATX plug to the motherboard doesn't fit the plug on the Dimension's
motherboard.

It appears that Dell uses a propritary motherboard.

I searched the PCBUILD archive and now am aware of the Dell mobo problem
but wonder if any company now produces a Dell compatable power supply.

Does anyone know of a 400 watt or better power supply which will fit a
Dell Dimension 8250?
