Hi Joseph,

You shouldn't have to do anything, Windows 95 should recognize it
automatically, with no help from you.
Is this a new CD ROM drive? Did you make sure to connect the
power supply correctly (and securely) and the ribbon cable tightly
(and also the proper way?
Another thing to check is to make sure if the new CD ROM has a
master/slave jumper that it's set in the correct position.
If this isn't a new CD ROM, and suddenly it disappeared, you'll
need to go into control panel, system, device manager and see if it's
listed there, or if there's a yellow exclamation point next to it. If
there are any conflicts, this will be the place to find out.
Next check the power to the CD-ROM. See if the activity LED
works. Try to open the tray. If the tray doesn't open the drive does
not have power; check the plug connection to the drive inside the
case. If it doesn't work, try another plug. Make sure you put it in
properly. If you can't get power to the drive, you'll most likely have
to replace it (fortunately they're not too expensive). If you have
problems with other devices also, the power supply could be a
problem.
A good page with a lot of other troubleshooting tips for this problem
is located at

Good luck
