On my 1200 series HP laser printer there is a green light and an orange light. The green light goes on when it is receiving
material and printing. The orange light goes on when there is a problem. If you don't have a manual, you can download one from HP.

It does not go through a great deal of gyrations before printing, but it does take a while to get started. (My HP inkjet goes
through a great deal of gyrations.)

Subject: [PCBUILD] laser printer problems

I recently posted about an HP P1012 printer problem where it was ghosting on
the printout. The problem was fixed by replacing the toner cartridge. The
old cartridge was an expensive genuine HP and still had lots of toner, but
apparently the wiper blade had failed and did not properly clean the drum. I
got a compatible cartridge on e-bay for a fraction of the HP cost and it
works well.

Another question to the list. While the P1012 issue was being worked on, my
daughter needed a printer right away and bought an HP P1006 on sale at
Staples. The new printer works fine, but when it is first turned on, before
it prints the first page it makes a sound like it is trying to feed the
paper, then the orange light flashes for a few seconds, it tries to feed the
paper again, then the flashing again, and finally it prints. The whole
process takes about 15 seconds. After that, all following print jobs go
through with no problem.

My question is whether this is normal behavior for this printer or is this
unit defective? If any of you have this model, could you share your
experience? Thank you.
