Possibilities: Hardware issues (faulty memory chips, CPU, external
cache, motherboard, data cables, power supply). Software issues: Windows
corruption, driver conflicts.

You replaced the CD drive so I assume you replaced the data cable
also. If not try another. Heat problems are a possibility, but since
it's such a reproducible error that's probably not the culprit. I'd do a
clean install of Windows after fdisking and formatting and then on a
barebones system see if it still has the problem. That might lean the
scale heavily to hardware, but then you never can tell with Windows.

Before reinstalling you might try first tweaking the CD-ROM
properties in System/Performance/File System/CD-ROM to see if that
affects the problem. Also set the hard disk to Network server with the
RAM you have to increase cache in System/Performance/File System/Hard
disk. A third thing to try is to set a manual 400 Meg min and max
virtual memory file to see if that will help the reading and copying of
CD files.

Good luck,
