Bill:

Last night I fixed a Compaq Presario SR5110NX, a 2007 desktop PC. Already installed was Vista.

I wiped everything off and installed XP Pro SP2.

The MB contained 1 unused IDE. The HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-H30l drive was attached to SATA. This drive would not read CD disks. However it read DVD disks.

I looked for drivers at hp.com but only Vista drivers were listed. I called HP tech support and they said I need firmware drivers for the drive. HP support did not help me to obtain the XP firmware drivers. They suggested driversHQ.com. However, I did not try that.

I searched google and found a firmware driver,sp26944.exe, from HP which failed to install, giving an error, system does not meet minimum requirements.

Good thing I had XP drivers on a flash drive!
I could not install the fax software because it is on CD disk.

Also, I had to charge the customer for an external USB floppy drive so the customer could restore the image of Windows XP created using bootitNG software on floppy diskette.

I was NOT pleased with HP because it appears they are forcing Vista down the throats of their customers by not providing Windows XP drivers for their new laptops and desktop computers!
