Some UPS prices are getting way down there too...
When I first got a computer, I had lots of hardware problems.

Dell just kept changing things... FIVE motherboards, one of
everything else except the floppy drive and tape drive.

I got a UPS and it alarmed over fifty times one day in the first week.
Turn out there was a burned out (almost) connection on a
power pole near my house that seemed to be sending out lots
electrical spikes (but otherwise steady power).

I'll never forget the look on the repairman's face when he
showed me the bolt and asked me how I "knew" he would
find something like that...

The computer worked better than new till the replacement HD
crashed many years later...

Pure power -- Get it... --- Keep it... Rick Glazier

Must has been quite a jolt to due that much damage.
Didn't have Surge arrestor on it at that time,
snipped
Note-Surge suppressors are really CHEAP.
