Hi,

I have all sorts of big data files that would be great in pivot tables but to
date for lack of processing power have had to limit myself to projects of
10-20,000 rows.

With Microsoft releasing Window 7 and Office 14 in 64-bit versions later this
year I thought maybe I could now move ahead a bit. Someday, I hope to train
myself in Java, UNIX, and Oracle but for now I only know the Access
programming environment with its user friendly graphical tools.

With this in mind I was wondering what might be a good starting point for a
dual platform to work with databases of around 100,000 to 200,000 rows and 1
to 2 GB in size. I would like to keep the budget at about $2000, which might
impact the available speed options of the disk set-up.

I appreciate any rough sketches as to what might make up such a system.

Thanks much, Steve.
