You don't actually have 4  physical hard drives, but rather 4 partitions on a single drive?  If so, how many total gigs does the one drive have? If it were me, I would have asked this question before I went out to buy an external hard drive.  You should consider reformatting your C partition and reinstalling the OS, whatever that is. If you do, you might want to eliminate one or more of the partitions unless you have some overarching need to see 4 drive letters or to keep stuff that compartmentalized.  You could just buy a new internal hard drive ATA100 7200 rpm 60 to 120 gig since you obviously need some space.

Have you tried cleaning out your c:\windows\temporary Internet folders and your c:\windows\temp folder?  After you do that, run scandisk and then your defragmenter.  If you haven't done any of the above in a while, you may gain some speed just be doing them.
