Joel Bluming asked how to cycle a server OFF/ON remotely.

This is just a suggestion (I haven't tried it.). Assuming that you have
a spare telephone line (during off-hours - it could be used normally
during the day - but would have to be free to reboot. Cannibalize an old
telephone answering machine.

Use a relay contact that closes for a short time - e.g. to rewind the
tape? - when it receives an incoming telephone call followed by your
"secret code" - the three digit command plus digit to rewind tape. Make
sure that you have isolated both sides of the relay contact (when both open
AND closed) and then use that to short the Reset switch/jumper on the
server. Hang up to open the relay and reboot.

Alternatively, you could have a licensed electrician install a POWER
relay controlled by a low-voltage circuit and the answering machine
relay between the UPS and the server. All voltages would have to come
from the UPS to avoid crashes due to momentary outages.

Does your server have provision for an automated, orderly shutdown in
event of a power outage, while continuing to operate briefly on the UPS?
In that case, a power relay on the incoming power to the UPS should do.

I suspect that there is commercial equipment available to handle this.
You might try a Systems Operator/SysOp/ISP mailing list for their
experience - I'm just guessing.
