I've run into a situation where its absolutely necessary to mount and IDE
hard disk and cd-rom externally to the host PC.

No, this is not by choice, but by neccessity, and yes I know this is
probably not the greatest choice. It is not possible to place the system in to
another case with more space, due to the proprietary/odd shape of the
original motherboard.

I would like comments on any one who has done this with **success**.

Especially would be interested in what external cases you used, cables,
make of hard disk(s) & CD-ROM's you have success with in this situation.
Sources of the items used etc..

If I could I would mount inside the case, but its not possible.
