Hi everyone,

I have a Pentium II, running Windows 98. It has a CD player, and a 3.5" floppy . More and more, the floppy drive is not recognized by the hard drive. When I insert a disk nothing happens, and "My Computer" shows no floppy drive. I have taken it apart and checked all the cables etc, and everything looks fine to my untrained eye. Several reboots will sometimes get the hard drive to recognize the floppy. I am certain that one day soon it will be completely dead. I will be replacing my system in approximately 6 months. In the meantime, is there an external CD read/write or floppy disk that I can cheaply purchase and plug in, or other cheap temporary bandage solution? I am a complete novice. Please keep any advice you can afford me in simple terms.

Thank you,
Cathy
