I've been researching this for a little while trying to get caught up on the
technology (also to buy one).  I've heard lots of good about the Ricoh MP6200
models.  A lot of people strictly recommend SCSI to avoid buffer overrun (ruins
the CD) but IDE seems to be more acceptable now.  I ended up buying an HP7200i
IDE with the Adaptec DirectCD and Easy CD Creator software. It has worked great
on my low end system (P-100).  Some people have said they had problems with
them but I haven't.

Yes, they are really too slow at this stage in the game (fastest read is 6X or
now 8X). I use my 32X Toshiba in conjunction with my burner.

Generally but not always the case.  Check before you buy. Stick with the
Adaptec SW from what I hear.
