In the process of moving, I was forced to give up my dsl and go back to
dialup...hopefully only temporarily. So, I pulled my network card,
replaced it with a modem, and was back in business, or so I
thought....
I can get a good dialup connection at ~44k, but *every* internet app,
IE, OE, Netscape, Yahoo Messenger.....crashes on startup whenever I'm
connected with the message that the program has performed an illegal
operation.

I had Covad dsl, which is PPOE (?) and thought it might be a tcp/ip
problem so I removed and reinstalled tcp/ip, but it didn't cure
anything. I also get a "MPREXE caused an invald page fault in module
<unknown>...." error message on windows startup, which after
cleared/closed, windoze will load.

I searched the microsoft knowledgebase for "MPREXE" errors and that
seems to indicate that my password files may be corrupted, but I
haven't
yet been home to try to delete it.....

Between this and *^%$@# Ameritech screwing up my phone line, I'm going
crazy.......

Any clues??

Thanks!!!!!
