If the modem is plug-and-play, there will be no jumpers to have been reset,
but when the modem was tried in the other system, the operating settings
could have been changed when it was installed in the other computer.  As
has been suggested, don't try doing this all in one big step.  Get the
computer working with as little hardware as possible then add one and test
until it stops working again.  Then you will at least know where the
problem is.
