I bought the Maxtor 80 GB External Drive, and yes it comes with an
external power supply which connects from a power bar into the back of
portable power supply which has a power cord to the back of the drive.

It is connected from a USB port into the drive. The drive is formatted and
I was able to install partitions using Partition Magic 8

It came with all the required USB and power cables, and very good detailed
instructions.

I have just had this a short time and cannot provide any further
information on it's capability to operate Linux.
