We are having difficulty re-establishing an internet connection for one of
our networked workstations that was working last week. Running TCP/IP,
IPX/SPX and NetBUIE protocols over a 3-com NIC. The WS in question can
still see other computers on the network and browse their files over NetBUIE
bound to the NIC. Printer sharing over IPX/SPX to an HP Jet Direct still
functions. File and printer sharing over TCP/IP is not enabled. Ascend
Pipeline 75 ISDN router performs DHCP but addresses do not duplicate and
sub-masks appear in order and consistent over all networked workstations.
We even tested the router, hub and cable at this location by connecting a
laptop which accessed the internet without any problem. We compared the
network settings on the problem computer with those on the connected laptop
and they were consistent. Computer name and workgroup name setting were
fine. Sharing enabled. Uninstalled and reinstalled all network protocols.
Really, I'm down to one last option: substituting a NIC for the existing
NIC despite the apparent LAN connectivity of the existing card. Has anyone
on the list another suggested avenue for trouble-shooting this connection
problem.
