This sounds like a problem I had sometime ago with my Live Value.  I happen to
catch that the sound card was installed twice....once as Live Value under the
Sound controllers (in Device Manager), and also under Other Devices (I think).
In the Other Devices, it called the soundcard by another name.  This may not be
at all what is wrong with yours, but check it out.  I simply removed the
unwanted soundcard and had no further problems.
