My CD Drive vanished from my computer. I tried updating the driver, but
it did not work. If it is a hardware problem, I expect it is cheaper to
buy a new one than to try and fix the existing one which is about 2
years old. How can I tell if there is a software fix?

I am running Windows 98 SE with a Pentium II - 256 with 56 Meg Ram ( I
will upgrade that, but it is not the problem with the CD Drive), and a
12 and 4 Meg harddrives.

Thanks,

Dale Johnson
