I had one Motorola Winmodem, and it would disconnect at random times (but
DUN would not show it). I would know it disconnected when I heard the
relay click.

I am using a Zoom hardware modem with a Lucent chip, and have had no
trouble at all. Connects reliably at 48,000 and 49,333. The winmodem,
BTW, would not go any faster than 48,000, and usually connected lower.
