If possible open up the case and look at the capacitors on the
systemboard. I've replaced several Optiplex & Dimension
systemboards over the last year due to blown caps. I have another
one this morning. Also, the other problems we've had have been bad
Maxtor 40GB drives (we had dell replace 190 after we replaced about
40 in about two months). On rare occasions I've had memory go bad.
I've replaced three powersupplies in the last two weeks on
Dimension/Optiplex systems. The Optiplex GX60's are really bad for
PS's

You should be able to do a quick hard drive test. When the system
POSTs press Ctrl-Alt-"D" (not the delete key but the letter "D".
It will take a couple of minutes.

Good luck.

Hi,
I have a Dell Dimension 4600 P4,2.4mhz, 1.25G ram. I've had 2 years
w/ no issues until this week.
1. When I try to power up it does nothing for approx 5 min, then
will flash front indicating lights. If I push start button while
they are flashing it will start.
2. I now get BlueScreenOfDeath intermittently. In the event viewer
I get these two faults :The Background Intelligent Transfer Service
service terminated with service-specific error 2147952450
(0x80072742), and this one: Error code 1000008e, parameter1
c0000005, parameter2 8056e2a2, parameter3 ba6d5b24, parameter4
00000000.
If anyone can offer suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you.
